Spicy Sweet Potatoes Recipe

by Latisha
(Alabama)

Ingredients:

3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 1/2-inch chunks
2 cups packed light brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick
2 whole cloves
6 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch ground cloves
Water

Directions:

Place the sweet potatoes, sugar, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves in a large cooking pot. Add enough water to just cover the sweet potatoes. Partially cover the pot and simmer, over low heat, until the potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes.

Drain and place the sweet potatoes in a large bowl.

Discard the cinnamon stick and the whole cloves.

Melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium to high heat. Stir in the ground cinnamon, cayenne, salt, and ground cloves.

Pour the mixture over the sweet potatoes and mash to the desired consistency.

Transfer sweet potatoes to a serving bowl and serve hot.
