Baking sweet potatoes is one of the easiest ways to cook sweet potatoes. Simply wash or scrub the potatoes, prick the skin with a fork or sharp knife and bake them at 400 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes or until done. Boiled sweet potatoes are used in many sweet potato recipes. Place whole, unpeeled, sweet potatoes in boiling water and cook them for 35 to 45 minutes, depending on their size. Drain the cooked sweet potatoes and peel them when they are just cool enough to handle.
